Rays Drop Opener To White Sox

The Chicago White Sox (36-65) defeated the Tampa Bay Rays (52-49) 8-3 on Monday night at Steinbrenner Field to win the opener of the three-game series. It was the second loss in a row for Tampa Bay.

Brooks Baldwin hit a three-run homer in the second to give Chicago an early lead, before Chicago added three more in the third. The Rays got two back in the fourth thanks to a two-run double from Taylor Walls, but Miguel Vargas homered in the top of the fifth to make it 8-2. Yandy Diaz hit a solo homer in the seventh to make it 8-3, which would prove to be the final score.

The Rays will look to bounce back in the middle game of the three-game series coming up on Tuesday night. First pitch Tuesday is scheduled for 7:35 PM - pregame coverage begins with Ronnie Lane hosting Inside Pitch at 6:30 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620, your Home of Rays Baseball.
