The Tampa Bay Rays (39-32) blanked the New York Mets (45-27) 9-0 on Sunday afternoon in New York. With the win, the Rays completed a three-game sweep of the team with the best record in the National League and are seven games above .500 for the first time this season.
The Rays got the scoring started with three in the second before adding another in the third to take a 4-0 lead. In the fifth inning, it was Jonathan Aranda coming through with a two-run double to give the Rays some much needed insurance - Aranda finished the game 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored. Junior Caminero added a three-run homer in the ninth inning to make it 9-0, which would prove to be the final score.
Shane Baz (6-3, 4.54) led the way for the pitching staff, pitching six and two-third shutout innings while striking out six and walking four to earn the win.
The Rays now return home for a four-game homestand against the Orioles coming up on Monday night. First pitch Monday is scheduled for 7:35 PM - pregame coverage begins with Ronnie Lane hosting Inside Pitch at 6:30 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620.
