Rays Drop Opener of Road Trip To Diamondbacks

The Arizona Diamondbacks (14-9) defeated the Tampa Bay Rays (9-14) 5-1 late Tuesday night in Phoenix. It was the second straight loss for Tampa Bay, and first on a six-game, two-city western road trip.

The Rays offense couldn't figure out Diamondbacks pitcher Brandon Pfaadt (4-1, 2.73) who allowed just one earned run on four hits in six innings of work while striking out five and walking four. Jake Magnum gave the Rays their only offense with a RBI single in the second inning.

Zack Littell (0-5, 5.28) had another quality start but again got pegged with the loss, allowing three earned runs on six hits in six innings of work while striking out two and walking one.

The Rays will look to bounce back and even the three-game series when they meet in game two on Wednesday night. First pitch Wednesday is scheduled for 9:40 PM - pregame coverage begins at 9:00 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620, your Home of Rays Baseball.
