Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has reportedly agreed to a 14-year, $500 million contract extension, which is pending a physical, sources with knowledge of the situation confirmed to ESPN's Jeff Passan Sunday (April 6) night.
Guerrero, 26, a native of Montreal and the son of Baseball Hall of Famer Vladimir Guerrero Sr., has spent his entire Major League Baseball career with the Blue Jays, which includes being selected as an All-Star during each of the past four seasons.
"First baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and the Toronto Blue Jays are in agreement on a 14-year, $500 million contract extension, pending physical, sources tell ESPN. A monumental, no-deferral deal to keep the homegrown star in Toronto for the rest of his career," Passan wrote on his X account. "The Blue Jays wanted for years to sign Vladimir Guerrero Jr. It wound up taking the third-biggest deal in MLB history to get it done. After big free agent misses, Toronto finally closed on a beloved player."
The Athletic senior writer and FOX Sports MLB field reporter Ken Rosenthal was first to report Guerrero's extension.
Guerrero had previously said that he wouldn't negotiate during the season after the Blue Jays failed to reach an agreement on an extension prior to spring training. The reported deal will make him the third-highest-paid player in MLB history behind New York Mets outfielder Juan Soto, who signed a 15-year, $765 million contract this past offseason, and Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani, who signed a 10-year, $700 million deal in 2023, between his second and third MVP seasons.
Guerrero is currently hitting for a .256 average with 4 RBIs through his first 10 games of the 2025 MLB season and has a .287 average with 160 home runs and 511 RBIs for his career.
