Rays Walk Off Rockies For Opening Day Win

The Tampa Bay Rays (1-0) defeated the Colorado Rockies (0-1) 3-2 on Friday evening at Steinbrenner Field in Tampa. The Rays began their historic first season in Tampa with a memorable walk-off win.

Colorado built a 2-0 lead thanks to a RBI double in the second from Ezequiel Tovar and a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth from Kyle Farmer.

The Rays tied the game in the bottom of the seventh - after Jonathan Aranda hit a sacrifice fly to pull within 2-1, Jose Caballero drove in a run with a RBI single to make it 2-2, which would be the score heading into the ninth inning.

On the first pitch of the bottom of the ninth inning, Kameron Misner hit a solo shot to give the Rays a walk-off, 3-2 win on a unique and memorable Opening Day in the history of baseball in the Tampa Bay area.

Ryan Pepiot got the start for the Rays and allowed two runs - just one of them earned - on six hits in six innings of work while striking out eight and walking one. Pete Fairbanks (1-0, 0.00) earned the win after working a scoreless top of the ninth inning.

The Rays and Rockies meet in the second game of their three-game series on Saturday afternoon. Zack Littell (0-0, ---) is scheduled to get his first start against Antonio Senzatela (0-0, ---) for Colorado.
