Two Children Critical After DUI Crash

Two children are in critical condition following two suspected DUI crashes in Polk County.

Deputies arrested 32-year-old Ashauntie Cox late last week. She is accused of crashing into a car along U.S. 27 near Frostproof last Friday and driving off. Shortly after the first incident, investigators say she hit another vehicle on the same road, forcing a five and an eight-year-old inside her car to be ejected.

Police say Cox admitted to smoking marijuana and drinking tequila before getting behind the wheel.

"This woman had no regard for anyone’s life when she got behind the wheel intoxicated and then drove recklessly down a major highway, " said Sheriff Grady Judd. "But what’s worse is the blatant disregard she had for the lives of the innocent children in her car."
