Invasion of the Cement Trucks

If you're planning to be in or around downtown St. Pete this evening, the chances are pretty good that you're going to see a *lot* of concrete trucks.

Approximately 650 will begin moving in after 7 pm to begin pouring concrete for the foundation of a 46-story high-rise condo development. Project executive Chris Lewis with Suffolk Construction says the scope of this operation is the biggest in the city's history. "We're going to be pulling concrete from four different concrete plants between Tampa and St. Pete, and this is going to be a relatively massive operation."

Plans for the Residences at 400 Central include more than 300 units, plus retail and office space. When finished, it'll be the tallest building on Florida's Gulf Coast. The concrete pour is set to begin at 9 pm and wrap up by 4 pm tomorrow.
