CLEARWATER -- Police are looking for the killer of a man found dead early Friday morning in a Clearwater Beach neighborhood.
Deputy chief Michael Wallek says a 911 call sent officers to the 700 block of Mandalay Avenue around 12:37 a.m. They found a man's body lying in the street. The man, only identified as being white and in his 30s, showed signs of blunt force trauma. No weapon has been recovered. Police believe the victim had been riding a bicycle. They don't know his name yet.
The 911 caller reported hearing sounds that suggested a struggle. Wallek calls this a "crime of opportunity." He says patrols have been stepped up in the area.
Police believe the suspect may have used a black, 4-door vehicle to get away.
