TAMPA -- Police are looking for the shooter who fired into a Tampa middle school during classes Monday morning.
TPD says it first found out about the gunfire near Orange Grove Middle School on North 16th Street about 9 a.m., when it was picked up on the microphones of a gunfire-location app called Shotspotter. Officers then got a call about shots fired across from the school, in the 1500 block of East 27th Street.
A man told police someone he knew drove by his home firing several shots at his house, and he returned fire in self-defense.
One bullet struck an outside door at Orange Grove Middle. That door was locked and leads to a stairwell used for storage space.
No children were in the area and the school was not threatened, according to police, who are investigating the shooting.
