Florida Community Wells Contaminated After Ian

MYAKKA CITY -- Manatee County government says a number of private wells in the Myakka City area show contamination from floodwaters after Hurricane Ian.

The tests were administered in the wake of Ian-related flooding by the Florida Department of Health and show "a substantial number of wells showed impurities.

Manatee County is restarting a water distribution point at the Myakka Community Center beginning today (Thursday) and continuing until water is declared safe. The county is also selecting contractors to provide disinfection services to well owners.
