The City of Delray Beach has approved a $1 million settlement with the Florida Department of Health over concerns with its drinking water supply.

The negotiated consent order will require the city to comply with several corrective actions after being accused of nine violations surrounding Delray's reclaimed water program regarding alleged cross-contamination.

Reclaimed water is not suitable for drinking or using for bathing.

According to reports, taxpayers will be footing the bill for the settlement, but some of the money could be recouped through insurance.

Under the settlement, the city has three years to be in compliance.
