A woman faces a slew of charges after police accuse her of locking her elderly wheelchair-bound neighbor in a room and buying his house for one dollar.
Investigators in Palm Springs say 44-year old Maibell Bastida had offered to assist the man who had returned home in August after a stroke and heart attack.
Two other neighbors grew suspicious of Bastida and contacted police. She allegedly filed Power of Attorney paperwork and had the victim sign it.
He told authorities that the woman took away all of his credentials, a bank card, house keys and cellphone and then locked him in a bedroom.
Investigators learned she bought the man's home for a buck with a "Quit Claim Deed." The documents were signed while he was being treated in the hospital.
Bastida remains behind bars at the Palm Beach County Jail on $277,000 bond.
