Sunshine Skyway 10K Race Goes Virtual in 2021

ST. PETERSBURG -- An annual foot race across the Sunshine Skyway will go virtual due to the pandemic.

There is no physical race this year, but participants who pay the $55 registration fee may run 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) anywhere they wish that's legally available, including a treadmill or sidewalk, between March 6 and 31 (but NOT on the Skyway itself or any freeway or tollway). The race is taking up to 2,500 registrants. The first two thousand will be able to bypass next year's lottery system to register for the 2022 race.

Registration begins Wednesday (Feb. 10) at 10 a.m. at SKYWAY10K.com beginning Wednesday, Feb. 10 at 10 a.m.

According to the Armed Forces Families Foundation, all fees go to the foundation's support of military families across the Southeast. Last year's event generated more than $640,000 in donations. Projects paid for with the foundation's funds include a new pedestrian bridge and upgrades to internet access at the Bay Pines VA Hospital.
