Get Storm Ready

With a potential tropical storm in the Atlantic and the state of Florida in its forecast path, Sheriff Chad Chronister is reminding Hillsborough County residents to stay prepared for severe weather.

“We never know for sure where a storm or hurricane will hit, but it’s not too early to start getting ready,” said Sheriff Chronister in the public service announcement (PSA) released Wednesday, July 29.

Sheriff Chronister is advising residents to take the following steps:

  • Know Your Risk - Visit HillsboroughCounty.Org to determine if your home is in an evacuation zone.
  • Prepare for the Worst - Stock up on water, batteries, flashlights, cleaning supplies and non-perishable foods for your family.
  • Have A Plan - Decide in advance where your family and pets will go if severe weather hits.

“Driving on the roads once a storm hits is never OK,” added Sheriff Chronister in the PSA. “Remember, preparation is key to ensuring that you and your family always stay safe.”

As of Wednesday, the storm system is expected to head towards the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico before reaching Hispaniola on Thursday, according to the National Hurricane Center.

The 2020 hurricane season began June 1 and runs through November 30.
