Teen Dies After Being Sucked Into Pipe In Fountain Where Swimming Is Banned

A teenager was killed while swimming in a fountain in Spain. The 16-year-old and his friends were cooling off in an ornamental fountain in Finca Liana Park in Mostoles, where swimming is prohibited.

While the teen was lounging in the shallow water, one of his friends decided to prank him and used the fountain's control panel to increase the water pressure. The increased water pressure caused the boy to get sucked into a pipe in the fountain.

His friends jumped into the water and tried to pull him out. They were unsuccessful and called emergency responders for help. It took emergency crews 50 minutes to rescue the boy from the pipe. Once he was freed, medics spent over 30 minutes trying to revive him but could not save his life.

It is unclear if the teens will face charges for the tragic death of their friend. Local officials said they are inspecting other fountains in the area to ensure that their controls are covered and cannot be tampered with.
