FWC Needs Your Input on Future Management of the Flounder Fishery

Amanda Nalley, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission spokesperson, joined AM Tampa Bay to discuss the FWC needs your input on the future management of the flounder fishery.

The FWC will be holding virtual flounder workshops to get the public's input about management of the flounder fishery.

A stock status update suggests that the flounder fishery statewide has been in a general declining trend in recent years and is likely overfished and undergoing overfishing on the Atlantic coast of Florida.

The next workship is at 6 p.m on June 4th and you can connect to meeting here (There will be a number to call into will be on the screen once you are logged into Adobe Connect)

If you can’t attend the virtual workshops, you may also view this video workshop presentation.

Here are the potential regulation changes that would take place:

·Reduce recreational bag limit from 10 to 5 fish per person

·Increase minimum size limit from 12” to 14” (recreational and commercial)

·Establish a November closure (recreational and commercial)

·Establish a commercial vessel limit of 150 flounder when using allowable gear

·Extend all FWC flounder regulations into federal waters
