Dr.Maria Hicks, ForCare Medical Center, joined AM Tampa Bay to discuss COVID Toes.
There is not too much information and data on COVID Toes but there is an international registry to document COVID-19 patients' range of dermatological conditions that launched last week in collaboration with the American Academy of Dermatology.
The reports are of people who tested positive for COVID-19 and those whose health care providers suspect are positive so there will be more information as time goes on on the condition.
These patients often do mot know that they have the COVID-19 infection and that they are likely contagious.
The spots could be red and purple and are usually painful or asymptomatic bumps on toes and fingers.
Testing is limited for otherwise asymptomatic patients and healthcare workers may not be able to confirm quickly those results, so it's better to isolate and take precautions with patients presenting this symptoms.
