Pinellas Deputy Cleared in Deadly Shooting

LARGO -- Prosecutors say a Pinellas deputy assigned to a violent crimes task force was justified in using deadly force in a St. Petersburg incident.

According to the state attorney's office, 32-year-old deputy Richard Curry Junior, a three year veteran, was defending himself when two men raised their weapons and fired at him January 23rd.

One of the alleged assailants, Marquis Golden, died of his wounds. The other, Delvin Ford, will face trail for Golden's murder.

The incident happened January 23rd at the 2200 block of 36th Street South in the city of St. Petersburg. At that time, the St Petersburg police department was not participating in the task force, after withdrawing due to fall out from other incidents. A few days later, Police Chief Tony Holloway decided to rejoin the task force.
