Important Documents To Have If You Evacuate

If you are evacuating, here some important documents to bring with you and tips for after the storm when it comes to insurance claims.

IMPORTANT DOCUMENTS

- Driver's License and State Issued ID Card

- Utility Bills - Use as a secondary proof of insurance with your Driver's License or ID Card when you return after the storm. Law enforcement and emergency officials will ask for identification to allow only legitimate residents to return.

- Copies of Car and/or Boat Insurance Identification Cards / Policies for all vehicles/vessels - Vehicles may be damaged if you leave one behind or even if you evacuate to another location. You will want to file claims as soon as possible. Make sure boats and vessels are also properly secured before evacuating.

- Homeowners and Flood Insurance Policies - Reminder, homeowners' policies cover traditional storm related damage caused by wind or wind-driven rain (downed trees, structural damage, water damage caused by rain). Flood policies are separate policies to specifically cover flooding as defined by National Flood Insurance Program (storm surge, inland storm flooding, coastal flooding)
