Kate Smith Introduces "God Bless America"

This video will take you back in time in the early 1940s Kate Smith was a patriotic American and the biggest star on the radio.

Smith asked Irving Berlin if he could give her a song that would reignite the spirit of American patriotism and faith.

Berlin wrote a song back in 1917, but never used it.

Smith called Mr. Berlin and told him that she couldn't take the song. So, they agreed that any money that would be made off the song would be donated to the Boy Scouts of America.

Kate Smith and Irving Berlin received millions of dollars in royalties that went all to the Scouts.

This clip is from the movie "You're in the Army Now."
