Amy Maguire with Swim Across America and Carli Taymans, a local high school student, joined AM Tampa Bay in the studio to discuss Swim Across America and how organization is raising money for cancer research.
Carli swam in the event last year and while her mother, Jill Taymans, was waiting for her to finish the race she when she decided to go to a booth at the event to get tested for skin cancer. It turned out that the mole was, in fact, skin cancer.
Carli will be swimming in this year's event on May 11th at North Shore Park in St. Petersburg.
