Tampa,Fla.-(NewsRadio WFLA)-The City of Tampa has elected a new mayor!
It was a landslide victory for former Police Chief Jane Castor over businessman David Straz in Tuesday's runoff election. According to the unofficial results from the Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections, Castor received over 73 percent of the votes to Straz's 23 percent.
During her victory speech the Mayor-elect thanked her supporters and volunteers, former Mayors of Tampa and the voters for her victory. Castor says, shes never been more excited or hopeful about the cities future.
In his concession speech, David Straz, who spent over five million dollars on his campaign, told his supporters, the only thing that matters, is to give Mayor-elect Castor all the support she needs to carry out her responsibilities.
Election results will be certified, April 25, Castor takes office May 8th.
