Detectives Looking for Walmart Scanner Scammer

SEFFNER, FL (WFLA News) -- Hillsborough deputies are looking for a man they say used the self-checkout line at a Walmart to steal about $300 worth of merchandise.

They say the man in the picture went into the store at 11720 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard just before 6:00 a.m. on April 7, and grabbed a foam mattress topper and a 12-person tent. He pretended to scan the boxes but he actually scanned a sticker with the numeral "0." He then put the items back in a shopping cart.

Deputies say he drove off in a black SUV.

Tampa Bay Crimestoppers is offering a reward for information leading to an arrest, if the tip is reported anonymously through their office.
