Trial resumes in John Jonchuck trial

A second psychologist assessed John Jonchuck's mental state Wednesday morning. Dr. Richard Cipriano then told the court that, after questioning Jonchuck on this court proceeding, he determined that Jonchuck is mentally able to continue with his murder trial.

Judge Chris Helinger then ruled that Jonchuck is competent to stand trial, so testimony of a defense psychologist resumed.

On Tuesday, trial came to an abrupt halt when Jonchuck's lawyers raised concerns that he was making bizarre statements and questioned his competency. They're trying to convince a Pinellas jury that Jonchuck was legally insane when he dropped his five year old daughter Phoebe to her death from the Dick Meisner Bridge four years ago.
