Jonchuck trial comes to a halt--his competency questioned

The John Jonchuck trial has come to a halt.

Jonchuck's competency is being evaluated after his lawyers told the court Tuesday afternoon that the 29-year-old may be hallucinating.

So, Pinellas-Pasco Circuit Judge Chris Helinger ordered the evaluation by a court psychiatrist.

If Jonchuck is found to be incompetent, the trial cannot resume.

Psychologists testifying for the defense took the stand Tuesday morning to discuss Jonchuck's history of mental illness.

Jonchuck dropped his five-year-old daughter Phoebe to her death from the Dick Meisner Bridge in Pinellas County in January of 2015. Defense attorneys are trying to prove that Jonchuck was legally insane at the time of the murder.
