DELRAY BEACH (WFLA News) -- A Brandon man is facing a murder charge from a cold case across the state. Delray Beach police chief Javaro Sims says 51 year old Todd Barket of Brandon is in custody in Hillsborough County for the death of 68 year old Sondra Better in 1998. Better was workng alone at Lu Shay's Consignment Shop on Federal Highway in Delray.
"She was stabbed and bludgeoned... and no one deserves to die in that manner," Sims said.
Barket was living in the nearby town of Lantana at the time. He stayed off the radar until January, when police say he applied for a job and had to give fingerprints. Those matched the crime scene.
Detectives then got a DNA sample and Palm Beach COunty forensic technicians matched it to blood at the crime scene. Barket is being held at the Hillsborough County Jail and will be sent to Palm Beach County to stand trial.
