Deputies: Man Attempted Two Home Invasion Robberies in Carrollwood

Tampa, Fla. (Newsradio WFLA) - A man faces multiple charges accused of attempted robberies and home invasions in Carrollwood, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said. Derrick Lamont Walker, 22, tried to rob a man walking from his car in his driveway on Rosemount Dr. to his house around 3:30 p.m. Saturday, according to a news release from the HCSO.

Walker tried to talk to the victim, but the man ignored him, and ran into his house and locked the door as Walker ran up behind him. Walker began banging on the front door then pulled a 9mm Smith and Wesson semi-automatic handgun and fired a shot through the front door, which narrowly missed the victim, the news release said.

Walker went to another house on Rosemount and pointed a gun at the resident who answered his knock on the door. That person quickly slammed the door on him. Deputies say they got there around that time and Walker tried to run away, but they caught him, gun still in hand, and made the arrest. They say the gun was stolen in Pasco County.

Detectives try to determine if Walker also robbed a woman and shot her as she slapped the gun out of his hand Saturday morning about a mile away from the scene of the afternoon's attempted robberies, the release said.
