Bill Allowing Patients To Smoke Medical Marijuana Heads To Governor

The Florida Legislature is sending the governor a bill to repeal the state’s ban on smokable medical marijuana.

The House approved the bill on Wednesday. The Senate approved the bill last week. \

It is the first bill to go to the governor's desk during the legislative session.

Voters approved medical marijuana in 2016, but a law was signed the next year that banned smokable forms of the drug.

The state was sued over the issue and a judge declared the ban unconstitutional. Former Governor Rick Scott appealed the ruling, but Ron DeSantis, upon taking office, told legislators that he would drop the appeal if they didn't repeal the ban.
