The City of Tampa gearing up for hurricane season with new car tags

It's only February, but the city of Tampa is already thinking about hurricane season.

The city has announced a new plan to make the recovery process more efficient and safe. It involves hang tags issued to all residents who live in evacuation zones A,B and C, which are located south of I-275.

"Our goal is to get everyone back into their neighborhoods and soon as possible because you are the ones that live in that neighborhood. They will know who belongs in there and who doesn't," said Tampa Police Chief Brian Dugan.

Next week, the city will begin mailing out 70,000 of the tags that are meant to hang from your car's rear view mirror. Dugan urges citizens to look for those tags in the coming days and keep them in their car's glove compartment. "Do not throw them away!," said Dugan.
