Mexican Businesswoman Beheaded After Her Husband Failed To Pay Ransom

A Mexican businesswoman was murdered by her kidnappers after her family failed to pay a ransom of nearly four million pesos ($207,000). Susana Carrera was kidnapped outside of a friend's house in the city of Coatzacoalcos in the state of Veracruz. While she was waiting for her friend to answer the door so she could pick up her two children, a car pulled up, and a man got out and forced her into the car before speeding away.

Carrerra and her husband Luis Manriquez owned an aluminum company called Pexaliminio, though officials are unsure why Carrera was targeted. According to Fox News, local media reported that Carrera's family did not have the funds and was unable to pay the large ransom. A week later, authorities found Carrera's body inside of a bag in a parking lot in Coatzacoalcos.

Mexico News Daily reported that the kidnappers left a note with her decapitated body which read: “This happened to me because my husband played the tough guy and didn’t want to pay my ransom.”

Authorities said that they have not made any arrests in the case but will continue to track down those responsible. They also launched an investigation after photos from the crime scene were leaked to the media.

“The Office of the Attorney General of the state will not tolerate situations like this one, which constitutes a re-victimization and a breach of the duty of secrecy within the investigation,” prosecutors said in a statement.
