Hurricane Michael Relief Receives Record-Low Donations

Hurricane Michael was months ago, but unfortunately most in the affected areas are still trying to rebuild their homes and lives. This has been an especially tough storm to recover from, as donations for Hurricane Michael are far lower than other recent storms.

The Salvation Army received over $125 million for Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria in 2017. For Hurricane Michael, the organization received just $2.8 million. United Way received $750,000 for Hurricane Michael, which was $100,000 less than what they received for the 2017 Mexican earthquake.

Tampa Bay Times Government Reporter Emily Mahoney joined PM Tampa Bay to explain some of the reasons why donations have been so low .
