UC Irvine Suspends Fraternity After Sigma Alpha Epsilon Member Dies

Noah Domingo found dead

A fraternity at the University of California Irvine has been placed on interim suspension after an 18-year-old college student was found dead at an off-campus home.

Irvine police say Noah Domingo, 18, of La Crescenta, California, was found dead Saturday, but did not release any further information about his death. The 18-year-old died at about 3:30 a.m. at a private residence in Irvine, the Orange County Coroner's Office said. Police say they received a call at around 9:40 a.m. that Domingo was unresponsive.

Domingo was a first-year biological sciences major at the campus, which is located in Southern California's Orange County. He was also a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. Domingo, a freshman at UC Irvine, wanted to study kinesiology and eventually work as an NBA trainer, his father Dale Domingo told KABC.

The school placed the fraternity on interim suspension while the Irvine Police Department investigates Domingo's death. The university's Office of Academic Integrity and Student Conduct will also review the death in the "larger context" in which the tragedy occurred, university officials said in an email to the campus community.

The university also said that they would be working with the Greek community on campus to ensure that its members are "engaging in behaviors and practices that are in alignment with university policies and their own values."

Mike Sophir, the CEO of SAE, said headquarters have also suspended chapter operations during the review and has informed its members at UC Irvine to "fully cooperate with all investigative efforts."

"We are heartbroken by the death of our UCI brother, Noah Domingo," Sophir said in a written statement on Monday. "Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends, and we appreciate the support the university and its staff have provided to students in this difficult time."
