Cops: Polk Man Killed Ex-Girlfriend in Haines City

Haines City, Fla. (970 WFLA) - A man faces a murder charges after killing his ex-girlfriend and wounding another woman early Saturday, the Polk County Sheriff's Office said. Deputies answering a call about a reported shooting arrived at a home on Melbourn Drive to find David Murdock, 60, sitting outside the residence, according to a news release from the PCSO. Deputies arrested him without incident.

On the home's front screened porch, they found Sandra Andrews with an apparent gunshot wound to the face. She told deputies that "David" shot her, according to the release. She is expected to survive. Inside a closet in the home, the found the body of Lisa Bunce, 56, dead of an apparent gunshot wound.

"Murdock told us he had to 'get rid of the Devil' as an excuse for his actions," the news release quoted Sheriff Grady Judd as saying. "Lots of people blame the Devil for their misdeeds, but it takes a person to pull a trigger. We are going to hold Murdock accountable for murdering his ex-girlfriend and trying to kill another woman."
