Hillsborough County, Fla. (970 WFLA) - A Hillsborough County Fire Rescue lieutenant is facing domestic violence battery charges for the third time in seven years following his arrest yesterday for allegedly hitting and choking his live-in girlfriend last week.
Hillsborough County Sheriff's detectives say 38-year-old Daniel Reed and his girlfriend got into several verbal arguments that turned physical when Reed reportedly hit her and choked her twice between December 26th and 27th.
Reed's girlfriend also lost consciousness according to detectives.
He is charged with one felony charge of domestic violence battery by strangulation and misdemeanor battery.
In 2012, Reed was charged with two felony battery charges that were later dismissed after he completed a diversion program according to Hillsborough County court records.
A 2014 misdemeanor domestic violence charge was also dismissed the day it was set for trial before a judge in Plant City, also according to court records.
Reed is expected to appear before a Hillsborough County judge today. He is currently being held without bond.
