Woman Trapped in Car Underwater in Tampa Rescued

Tampa, Fla. (970 WFLA) - A dive team rescued a woman whose car had flipped and landed in a water-filled ditch along I-4 early Tuesday, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said. Amanda Antonio, 20, called 911 from inside her submerged car as water rose inside. She said that someone had cut her off in the Interstate near US-301 and she ran off the road into the muddy ditch.

Thirteen HCSO patrol units searched for her “in the thick fog that was blanketing the area making it difficult to find her,” according to a post on the Sheriff’s Office Facebook page. Deputies “fought the mud she was encased in” and pulled her to safety. She is in good condtion the HCSO said. “Today it took an entire team to save a life and we could not be more proud of the effort of our men and women,” the HCSO said in its Facebook post.
