Tampa, Fla.-(Newsradio 970 WFLA)-Florida gas prices are poised to be the lowest in three years on New Year's Day. Tampa's AAA says prices have dropped to below $2 dollars a gallon at 7% of Florida stations.
The Auto Club Group's Mark Jenkins attributes the price drop to the weakness in the stock market and concerns about global crude oil oversupply. Jenkins says wholesale gas prices have been holding steady. Unless oil prices suddenly spike, Jenkins says pump prices should remain low through the end of the year.
The Florida-wide average for a gallon of regular is $2.20. Jenkins says that is the lowest average since July of 2017.
The most expensive gas price averages are in Panama City at $2.55. The lowest gas price averages are in The Villages at $2.06.
