Wimauma, Fla. (970 WFLA) - A man died when an SUV with five passengers crashed on County Road 39 early Saturday morning the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said. Salvador Hernandez, 35, lost control of his Ford Expedition at about 12:15 a.m. as he and four others returned from a fishing trip. The SUV ran off the road and its left side struck a tree. The man sitting in a rear passenger seat on that side, Joel Mendez, died from injuries suffered in the impact. He was 26. The other four went to Tampa General Hospital with what deputies described as "non-life-threatening injuries, in a news release. Hernandez and Mendez were cousins. Deputies do not suspect alcohol as a contributing factor. Their investigation continues, according to the news release.
