Largo, Fla. (970 WFLA) - A diaper change turns deadly for a 7-week-old girl in Largo and now the man who signed her birth certificate is charged with first degree murder in her death, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.
Detectives arrested Artem Eydelman after they say he confessed to beating Gwendolyn Eydelman in the head with his fist, shaking her then squeezing her midsection, at their home on 117th Street North in Largo back on November 17th.
Deputies were called out to the home originally when Eydelman called 911, saying that he had found Gwendolyn unresponsive after he had put her in her bassinet before he fell asleep. Gwendolyn's mother, Mariah Samon, was reportedly at work.
Once Gwendolyn was taken to the hospital, doctors told detectives that the infant had suffered a skull fracture with what they say was "consistent with high force impact," brain bleeding and numerous rib fractures. Gwendolyn was placed on life support but was later taken off.
She passed away from her injuries on November 19th.
During their investigation, detectives confirmed what doctors had told them initially about the extent of Gwendolyn's injuries. On Monday, Eydelman was interviewed by detectives at the Sheriff's Office and reportedly admitted what he did to the 7-week-old girl. He was arrested and taken to jail.
Detectives also report that Gwendolyn's mother met Eydelman when she was already three weeks pregnant and he was not the biological father. They say Eydleman did sign Gwendolyn's birth certificate when she was born.
Eydelman is also on probation for various charges including robbery by sudden snatching and dealing in stolen property after he was sentenced to 18 months in prison in 2016.
He is also one several other parents accused of killing their children in the Bay area in recent months.
In Largo, 21-year-old Charisse Stinson is accused of first degree murder in the death of her 2-year-old son, Jordan Belliveau, days after he was returned to her and the boy's father from being in foster care. Stinson originally claimed that she had been attacked by a stranger who took Jordan.
Three days later on September 4th, Jordan's body was found behind the Largo Sports Complex.
Detectives say Stinson later confessed to beating Jordan in the head before putting his body outside the complex.
In August, frightened witnesses called 911 as they watched 26-year-old Shakayla Denson drag her autistic 4-year-old daughter, Je'Hyra Daniels, from a stolen car. She then took Je'Hyra into the middle of Hillsborough River near Columbus Drive and let her drift away. Denson walked back to shore leaving Je'Hyra behind to drown.
Minutes after receiving 911 calls, Tampa Police dive team officers found Je'Hyra's body 50 to 75 feet off shore and rushed her to St. Joseph's Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Denson is also charged with first degree murder in Je'Hyra's death.
