Tampa, Fla. (970 WFLA) - San Francisco 49ers linebacker Ruben Foster is out of jail and off the field following his arrest for domestic violence battery on Saturday night, hours before the 49ers took on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Foster was released from the Hillsborough County Jail Sunday afternoon after posting a $2,000 bond for the first degree misdemeanor charge he is now facing. Before bonding out, the 49ers issued a statement saying they were also releasing him from the team.
According to the Tampa Police Department, officers were called out to the Grand Hyatt Hotel on Bayport Drive, near the Courtney Campbell Causeway shortly after 9PM Saturday night. The alleged victim told officers that Foster had slapped a phone out of her hand, pushed her in the chest area, then slapped her in the face. Officers also saw a scratch on her collar bone. Police also discovered that Foster and the victim had been in an on-again, off-again relationship over the past three years.
Foster's case will be scheduled for a court date, once charges are formally filed by the State Attorney's Office.
