Coyotes Getting To Be A Problem In Sarasota

Florida Fish and Wildlife Badge

Sarasota, Fla.-(Newsradio 970 WFLA)-Florida Wildlife Conservation Commission officers say coyote sightings are getting more commonplace around Florida, but don't tell that to residents of the City of Sarasota.

Sarasota residents have been complaining to wildlife officers and police about recent coyote sighting in neighborhoods throughout the city, including areas near downtown.

Coyotes have now been documented in all 67 counties in Florida.  The coyote population is growing and the number of sightings increasing.

The F.W.C. says coyotes rarely pose a threat to humans and will run away if challenged.  But, wildlife officers says coyotes do prey on small dogs and cats, so you are urged to keep your pets indoors, especially at night.
