Clearwater, Fla.-(Newsradio 970 WFLA)-Police here have arrested and charged 22 year-old Chase Childers in connection with a hit and run accident on Drew Street that has a pedestrian hospitalized.
Officers say a 59 year-old woman was crossing Drew in the crosswalk when she was hit by a car driven by Childers. Investigators say Childers initially stopped and called 911, but then took off after telling the dispatcher he had found the woman down in the street.
Police later found Childers and arrested him for leaving the scene of a crash with serious bodily injury and for careless driving. Childers told officers he became distracted and hit the woman while he was trying to pick out some music on his phone.
The woman hit by the car is listed in critical condition at Bayfront Health in Saint Petersburg.
