Tampa, Fla. (970 WFLA) - The April death of a 2-month-old boy in a Tampa neighborhood has now led to the arrest of his mother.
Hillsborough County Sheriff's detectives arrested 34-year-old Megan Rand on Tuesday for aggravated manslaughter of a child after an autopsy report revealed that her son, Brennan, died from complications due to cocaine exposure.
Deputies were called out to a house on Long Meadow Drive in Town 'N' Country back on April 24th where Brennan was found unresponsive. He was taken to Tampa General Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
During their initial investigation, detectives reportedly found drug paraphernalia and other drug related items close to where Brennan was initially found. According to detectives, the Hillsborough County Medical Examiner's Office determined the official cause of Brennan's death was "diffuse pulmonary homorrhage with hypothermia due to cocaine exposure."
Rand is being held in the Hillsborough County Jail on $100,000 bond. She is facing up to 30 years in prison if convicted.
