Tampa, Fla. (970 WFLA) - A bicyclist crossing a busy road near the University of South Florida was struck by several vehicles and died early Friday, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said. It happened sometime around 6:05 a.m. on Bruce B. Downs Blvd. north of USF Pine Drive. The rider tried to cross east to west when he was hit, according to a news release from the HCSO.
Deputies had not notified the rider's relatives yet, so they did not release his identity, except to say that he was "an older, white male," the news release said. The investigation had just begun, deputies said, but no criminal charges were pending.
