Polk County man charged with threatening senators

Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd says 53-year-old James Patrick was arrested at his Winter Haven house, five hours after his investigators received reports of Patrick's violent Facebook rants aimed at senators who vote against the confirmation of Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh.

In some of his posts, Judd says Patrick threatened to kill Democratic senators and "weak Republicans" who vote against Kavanaugh, who has been embroiled in a controversial confirmation process that has includes accusations of sexual assault.

Judd says Patrick denied he intended carry out his threats.  But Judd says Patrick's posts had the indicators of a very violent person.  Judd his offices takes threats very seriously.  He also says everyone should "calm down and chill out", reminding everyone that "The Democrats aren't the enemy.  The Republicans aren't the enemy.  We're all Americans."
