Leslie Becomes A Hurricane

Miami, Fla. (970 WFLA)-At 5:00 AM EDT, the center of Hurricane Leslie was located near latitude 29.6 North, longitude 56.9 West, about 505 miles east-southeast of Bermuda. 

Leslie is nearly stationary, and little motion is expected today.  A northward motion is forecast to begin tonight, and this motion should continue through Friday night.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 75 mph with higher gusts.  Some additional strengthening is forecast during the next day or so.

Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 45 miles from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 230 miles.

The estimated minimum central pressure is 980 mb (28.94 inches).
