TAMPA (970 WFLA) -- Feel those bumps and potholes on Interstate 4? The state D-O-T says it's going to make them go away. But it'll take a couple of years and some nighttime road work.
John McShaffrey (SHAY free) with F-DOT says they're starting an 11-mile repaving project from U-S 41 (50th Street) out to McIntosh Road in east Hillsborough County. The project will take two years.
McShaffrey says most of the work will take place between 9 pm and 5 a.m.They'll also work on improving the I-75 interchange. The first lane closures could start as soon as a week from Sunday (October 14th).
McShaffrey says the pavement in that stretch is nearing the end of its useful life... about 8 to 10 years. He says they'll also work on that on ramp from I-75 that causes two lanes of traffic to back up on eastbound I-4 in the evening.
The work is expected to be finished by the end of 2020, and F-DOT says most of it will happen at night.
