Cops: Pinellas Deputy Runs Red Light, Causes Crash

St. Petersburg, Fla. (970 WFLA) - A Pinellas County sheriff's deputy crashed into another car while driving to help another deputy with a traffic stop Thursday night, the Sheriff's Office said.

Deputy Shawn Livernois, 31, made a U-turn at a red light at Park St. North at Tyrone Blvd. North at about 9:23 p.m. He did not have his lights or siren on, according to a news release from the PCSO, and pulled into the path of David Lawhead, 59, who had a green light as he drove east on Tyrone.

Lawhead could not stop and crashed his Toyota Sienna into the cruiser. Lawhead was uninjured. Livernois suffered "minor non life-threatening injuries," the Sheriff's Office said, and another deputy drove him to the hospital.
