Powerboats to Race in Clearwater Despite Red Tide

CLEARWATER (970 WFLA) -- The Superboat National Championship weekend events will go on in Clearwater this weekend, despite red tide. City spokesman Jason Beisel (buy-ZELL) says winds out of the east have kept the blooms away from the beaches.

Beisel says city employees have been going to work at 5:30 every morning to make sure the beaches are clear of dead fish.

"We're going to do the best we can... as we have been doing... to keep the beach clean and clear," Beisel says. He adds that the city will let visitors know if there are any respiratory or other issues reported.

Superboat events run Friday through Sunday on Clearwater Beach and in downtown Clearwater.
