Winter Haven, Fla.-(Newsradio 970 WFLA)-A woman is facing aggravated animal cruelty charges after dumping her dog in a dumpster here.
Polk County deputies were called to Mahogany Run after two people found a Chihuahua inside a sealed trash bag inside a dumpster. The dog was then turned over to Polk Animal Control.
A microchip implant led officers to 41 year-old Shawkimo Anderson. Anderson told them that she gave her dog "Diamond" to another lady several months ago. The woman later changed her story to say she had placed the dog in the dumpster because she could no longer afford to care for the animal.
The dog later died and a necropsy is being done to determine the exact cause of death.
