Fire Team Heads North to Help Florence Survivors

LUTZ (970 WFLA) -- A response team of firefighters from several agencies near Tampa is going up to help areas affected by Hurricane Florence, coordinated by FEMA.

There are 12 members from Pasco Fire, Pasco Emergency Management and other agencies. They'll be providing support for local emergency operations centers.

The team is led by Lakeland Fire Rescue battalion chief John Maddox. Before the storm, Maddox says they'll make sure shelters have what they need and that people are able to evacuate to shelters safely. Afterwards, their focus will be on supporting search and rescue operations.
